Hello everyone,
I’ve watched the whatever podcast a few times now. Ultimately, it offers the same trite about dating: women are bad, but men have no responsibility to seek better women by becoming better men. Rinse and repeat.
But this episode admittedly piqued my interest. I listened for at least 4 hours and walked away with a deeper understanding of hedonism, Destiny, and the nihilism that infects our culture.
Although there is much to discuss, and I will use this podcast to approach other topics later, I want to start with hedonism.
Hedonism is the pursuit of pleasure and sensual self-indulgence. Destiny is in a polyamorous relationship. Is he in the relationship because it makes him a better man, husband, father, or individual? Is he in it because it cultivates discipline, pushes him to greatness, or sharpens his mind?
No, he mentions multiple times that he sleeps with other people for “fun.”
The hedonist lifestyle is one of emptiness. Once the “fun” ends, what are you left with? Nothing.
And, of course, when such “fun” is pursued, you have to increase the dosage of the hit. The first hit might feel good, but your body builds tolerance. This tolerance forces you to pursue more and more extreme versions of your “fun.”
Additionally, the fun you pursue is not tempered by responsibility or virtue. Monogamy with children is dampened by the realities of running a home, affording needed supplies, and caring for children. These things quell and help manage one’s sexual drive.
There is no such external management in polyamory. One can pursue any inclination one desires, which naturally reduces the quality of the people one is with. Destiny, the high-profile man in the video, has had stalker threats and other internet drama. Sure, a streamer, whose job is to elicit attention, can endure the drama that arises and is actually well rewarded for sure drama.
But the 9-5 guy? His life will be ruined. The single woman? Her life will be in shambles. The average person does not benefit from drama. We are not the elites.
And such pursuit of “fun” doesn’t strengthen us. Fun is fleeting. What feels good now may cause heartache or heartburn tomorrow. One must think of the future. One must think beyond pleasure.
The philosophy of hedonism has nothing to offer. When individuals give up virtue, all that is left is self-worship - an empty, depressing way of living where anything you want is legitimate simply because you want it.
Be different. Pursue virtue. Rationalize your meaningful suffering. Push your mind beyond comfort. You are capable. You are an individual.

Monogamy, Parenthood, and Personal Responsibility
I will concede that marriage and parenthood are not for everyone. However, these are the paths that create the most discipline and purpose for an individual when it comes to sexuality and relationships.
Here are some articles and posts about the benefits of marriage and arguments supporting marriage.
Furthermore, here are some great readings about the evils of hedonism. When blindly pursuing what feels good, we naturally sacrifice what is virtuous.

Valkyria Chronicles - Although I have a PC, it isn’t that great. No worries. I’ve had the pleasure of going through older games on Steam, and Valkyria Chronicles is one such game.
“Set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of the 1930s, Valkyria Chronicles depicts Europa, divided and ruled by two super powers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading the principality Gallia, which shares its borders with the two superpowers, in an attempt to secure an invaluable natural resource, Ragnite. Within this struggle, a hero named Welkin, and his fellow soldiers of the Gallian Militia, ‘Squad 7’ are fighting back against the invasion and the Empire’s attempts to unify the continent under its power.” - from Steam

THEY LIE TO THEMSELVES - This continues to be an important post. Hedonism leads to self-deception. Hedonism makes no moral, social, individual, or productive sense. Thus, we have to lie constantly to ourselves to justify our participation.
3 THINGS MILLENNIALS TEACH US ABOUT HUMAN NATURE - It’s important to remember that most people when faced with virtue, will flee. They don’t want to pursue what is good but challenging. Millennials teach us this lesson in spades.

Momma’s Old School Burgers
Momma’s Old School Burgers is about the best diner in purgatory and the people who work and visit there.
I don’t write hedonists. If I write broken characters, it’s to tell you either to avoid their lives (but depict the illogical conclusion of hedonism) or to uplift them and show you how you can uplift yourself.
Within Momm’s Old School Burgers, there are a few characters who have flaws. But they don’t indulge. They seek to improve themselves, even when mistakes are made.
Our goal in life is to avoid vice and sin. But when we stumble, it’s important to get back up, own up to our mistakes, and take the steps necessary to escape the iniquity that captured us.
