Solidifying Belief Systems: A Journey Through Individualism
When I was in college, I solidified my belief systems. I immersed myself in Ayn Rand, consumed a steady supply of Adam Kokesh, and gained constant wisdom from Stefan Molyneux.
I understood how the world worked in college, and my values have not shifted. They have expanded and matured. I still believe in the sovereignty of the individual. I assume the government is guilty until proven innocent. I believe in the necessity of peaceful parenting, the non-aggression principle, etc.
My individualist principles are not mainstream. The mainstream values systems focused on collective greed and guilt. These values bury the individual so he can exploited by the weak men and women around him.
I’ve read Marx, watched hundreds of hours of Bread Tube videos, and had extensive discussions with people who disagree with me, and I can honestly say it was a waste of time.
Most collectivist, left-leaning arguments do not hold weight when put through any rigor. They are post-facto justifications for why lazy, greedy people shouldn’t have to work to provide for themselves and their communities.
There is value in being close-minded. The biggest benefit is that you’ll save time. You've won if you’re an individualist who understands the need for self-control and personal responsibility. All you can do with what you believe is refine.
There is little value in drinking deep and wide from other ideologies and philosophies, especially if you have a vision for your life. Learning about more obscure terms will not help you. Watching more debates will not enrich you. You have work to do, and the world will not allow you do it.
Questions To Consider
Self-Reflection: How did you come to solidify your belief systems? What influences played a significant role in shaping your current values and principles?
Critical Thinking: How do you differentiate between refining your beliefs and being overly rigid or dogmatic? Where do you draw the line?
In my experience, I am rigid against beliefs that promote vice, which is why I reject many left-leaning premises by default.
Perspective-Taking: Have you ever had an experience where engaging with opposing viewpoints led to a significant change or refinement in your beliefs? What was the outcome?
I have yet to engage with collectivist ideologies that have made me rethink my beliefs. I struggle to entertain anything that departs from the individual and pretends we can enact social change without changing the individual. You cannot have a beautiful forest with dead trees. You cannot have a strong society with weak individuals.
Balance: Is there a value in occasionally revisiting opposing viewpoints to test the strength and validity of your own beliefs? How do you ensure this process does not detract from your goals?
At the moment, I have seen little value in revisiting ideologies I rejected in my youth. When I return to the conversation or research, I find that the same bad points are made and easily counterargued.
Community and Society: How do you navigate living in a society that may have different mainstream values? What strategies do you use to maintain your individualist principles while interacting with others?

Growth: In what ways have your individualist principles expanded and matured over time? Can you identify specific experiences that contributed to this growth?
My struggle to integrate community and family into individualist principles has been my biggest hurdle. However, such a struggle has helped me mature.
Challenge: What are the most compelling arguments you’ve encountered from collectivist or left-leaning perspectives? How did you address or counter these arguments?
Welfare and caring for the poor. I thought collectivists cared about the poor. However, I delved into religion, learned how crucial capitalism was to fighting poverty, and saw how little collectivists voluntarily gave to the poor.
